1. The sour taste soothes your Liver. In Chinese Medicine, the Liver controls the smooth flow of Qi, or energy. If Qi is stagnated or stuck, symptoms such as irritability, frustration, and pain can emerge. Sour foods help the smooth the liver Qi and support calm, free-flowing energy.
2. Lemons are alkalizing. Research has shown that an acidic environment is a breeding group for disease, and our diets and environment are swamped with acid-producers such as sugar, coffee, and chemicals. Lemon, though acidic outside of the body, has an alkalizing effect on the blood and tissues. A daily dose can help buffer your body into a more idea pH balance.
3. Warm water with lemon balances digestion. Lemon water help relive common digestive ailments such as nausea, constipation, indigestion, and heartburn. For an added benefit, add a few thin slices of fresh ginger root to warm and calm the stomach- especially in wintertime.
