What does Acupuncture feel like and does Acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture should not hurt!  The sensations of acupuncture vary widely among individuals. You may feel a tiny pinch that immediately goes away. Once the needles are in you may feel a “qi sensation:” a feeling of numbness, distension, swelling, warmth, or aching around the point or along the course of the channel.  Some patients will feel nothing at all. Your acupuncturist will check in with you to be sure you are comfortable throughout your treatment.

How soon will I feel better, how many treatments will I need?

Length of treatment varies widely based on factors such as the condition being treated, length and severity of the condition, frequency of treatments, and willingness of the patient to make dietary and lifestyle changes.

Most conditions will see improvement within 4-6 weekly treatments.  Often, conditions may have relief or improvement after just one session.  Once the condition being treated has resolved, we recommend regular maintenance sessions (usually monthly or biweekly) to maintain your health and prevent future imbalances.

We will go over your treatment plan and projected length of treatment during your initial consultation.
